CB distance DXing - what beam antenna to use?

New postby 277md on Sat Sep 12, 2009 3:40 pm

This is on the back burner but I'd like to get specs on how I could maybe setup a directional CB antenna so I can try DX'ing specific VA CB'ers that are 40-50 miles from my home in MD. I have a ChannelMaster 9521A rotor on my roof for TV and I've piggy-backed my scanner antenna on there too.

However, I can't have any permanent (except TV/Wifi/Satellite) antennas larger than 39". I was thinking of a temporary antenna that I'd only put up per use and take apart and put back in my shed when done. In the past I have seen a somehwat portable mast at Lowes so I'll try to find that again. That would take care of the height. As for the antenna, cheaper would be better since it would not get that much use. Some I've found on-line are:

SMOKIN GUNN II
V-QUAD by Maco
"CB Gizmotchy Three" CB base station 3-element horizontal/vertical beam antenna
Maco M 103C

Thanks,

Do you have Satellite TV now? If so why not take the TV antenna down and replace it with a CB Antenna? Most people dont know the difference and it would seem that you just have a TV Antenna up there. If not then what about a 102 inch whip on to of the TV Antenna? Just a thought..

Thanks. I need some help interpreting the FCC's OTARD rules: http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html. I don't think they cover CBs. There is also info on CBs but I haven't found it yet. Otherwise I can only setup temporary stuff like the 6ft whip up there now. The only other way to use something large and permanent is to put it in the attic but I have aluminum siding.
